The mudslides near the bottom of the Viewlands Trail to Carkeek Park have eroded the ground beneath the trail, which is at risk of falling down, so trail access to the park may be closed. This could impact the opportunity for our kids to go on field trips to Carkeek, which are a highlight of the school year!
Fortunately, Seattle Parks and Recreation is asking residents to vote for a restoration project that will receive $20,000 in funding, and the Viewlands Trail at Carkeek is 1 of 3 finalists!
This project will restore the vital environmental-education trail between the salmon-bearing creek in Carkeek Park and Viewlands and will ensure our kids stay connected to nature! Rebuilding and rerouting parts of the trail will provide safe, equitable access for the school and the surrounding community.
Please support this important project to maintain access to Carkeek Park from Viewlands, and encourage like-minded people to do the same! Vote for the project by visiting https://www.meetmeatthepark.org or by texting carkeek to 35350. Note that you can vote once daily until the end of April.
