Viewlands Elementary School has been an important part of the Broadview neighborhood ever since its initial opening in the 1950’s and has enjoyed amazing support since its re-opening in September 2011. The school is growing and is currently approaching 400 students. Unfortunately, the playground has not kept up with the growing student population. Currently there is only one small play structure, a concrete play area and a grass/dirt field. We are working for something better for our students & community.
Over the last two years, the Viewlands PTSA has been working hard to design improvements to Viewlands outdoor space. Current plans are to add one additional play structure for older students, a multi-sport field, track and an imaginative play area that references the local ecology of Carkeek Park. A grant was awarded to create construction plans for these improvements. Viewlands now has the opportunity to submit a grant to the City of Seattle – Department of Neighborhoods Matching Fund on May 3rd to pay for a large portion of the playground. An important piece of the grant is to show wide community support for the project.
Viewlands will need supoort in both big and small ways for this project. The project will require; volunteer support, monetary support, construction/landscaping materials, donated professional services, donated supplies, project accounting, outreach and communications. If you want Viewlands and the surrounding area to have a playground and sport field that the whole community can enjoy and you think you or your business can help in a big or small way, please send a letter on letterhead to the Viewlands PTSA, briefly describing the help you would like to offer if the grant is awarded.
Please send support letters signed (PDF on letterhead is best); email@example.com or Mail to:
